Master Bedroom Tour

Our master bedroom has been a real source of strife in designing for me. There have been many mistakes made, many hicupps, a lot of bad ideas.

But I think it's finally coming together.

I've been researching and making selections for a while now and my amazing husband gave me the go ahead to buy everything we needed to finish.

Not having to wait for each little purchase is an amazing thing. Thing will often sell out while I'm saving up the money to buy it. I know we've all been there. A duvet goes on clearance, a fabric gets discontinued, it happens.

I have several more projects in here but I feel its good enough to show some progress pics.

I ordered the gray linen duvet from CB2. It's real nice.

And this bedskirt from Anthropologie.

I have a new black and white rug picked but I'm not sure if it's going to work out or not.

Time will tell! But a new rug will absolutely be purchased at some point.

I know, the ceiling fan. I would love nothing more than to get rid of it but let's get real. This is Texas and we've already had more than 5 days of 100+ degree heat. I just can't justify it.

The curtains are getting this trim down each side.

I got this trim for only $2.50 a yard! What!

Got our cable situation all buttoned up.

I ordered this fabric for our headboard. It's coral linen with black crewel work. Never thought I would like crewel but I LOVE this fabric! I like the kantha cloth I have now but this is going to be even better. Then the other side of the kantha cloth will be at the foot of our bed.

What do you think?

Happy Monday! It's a three day work wee for me then off on vacation to Yellowstone. Can't wait!

DIY Trials and Tribulations

As most of us DIY homies know, doing it yourself sometimes means doing it (shittily) yourself, or sometimes scrapping the whole thing and starting over.

This is one of those times.

When I bought our amazing craigslist coffee table I knew I wanted to build a box wrapped in brass to make it taller. A lot of you said I should just leave it but we eat dinner at ours a lot so we need something taller.

We started with a box my husband built in the appropriate dimensions. I spray painted it with a gold paint that was supposed to look like plated metal. It didn't. Then I bought a roll of sheet metal from the craft store.

We covered the box in ultra strong carpet tape and cut the metal with an x-acto knife.

We ruined about half of the sheet trying to figure out the right method. Then we got it right and got one side covered pretty well.

The problem is since the metal came in a roll it doesn't look flat. Being rolled up created little bumpys which are hard to see in this photo but it real life it's less than ideal.

So its back to the drawing board again.

I got some shiny gold wrapping paper we are going to try.

Have you had any DIY trials and tribulations lately?

Please tell me I'm not alone.

P.S. I got sooooo much done over the three day weekend. Its amazing what one extra day off can do. I will have a few quick changes to share with you this week. Hooray!

Dreaming of a New Entryway

The entryway is one of the first rooms I painted and decorated when we bought our home. And by first I mean I finally made a decision a year after living there.

I'm slow on the uptake I guess.

Well that was two years ago so naturally I'm ready for something new.

I'm sure many of you with a decorating compulsion can't believe I've gone that long without changing it already. I've been focusing on other rooms though. So now that the rest of our home is more planned and decorated I think the entryway could be better.

The color is pillow mint by valspar. I know I know, mint is all the rage right now (i did it before it was cool? Am I awesome enough to claim that?)

I've come to know I'm more of a dark and moody jewel tone lover now.

And with a small space I am craving some boldness here...

But then the issue with that is its right off the hallway which has these stripes you see.

So my questions are;

Can I do something like a stencil right off the striped hallway?

If not should I repaint the hallway in favor of going bold here?

I also need to look for a new console.

This one is from Target from my college days (fuh-eva ago it seems now)

Its done me well and my paint job has extended its life greatly but its time for it to go!

Some inspiration...

This is one of my favorite entry ways of all time. Its not dark or moody at all I know. I just like the simplicity of it I guess.

This wall stole my heart.

As did this one. I think the gold stencil might be more subtle to blend with the rest of the house. Remember my living room is right to your left!

The black wall with gold accents and a colorful painting is a wonderful thing in Naomi's loft.

Same vibe here.

I love love love the idea of a floating console. This could be an awesome DIY or Ikea hack too!

My collection of vintage mirrors is going to stay either way. I love it too much to let go yet.

Thoughts on the whole shebang?

Have a wonderful weekend!

OMG I Just Bought This!

Get an email from One Kings Lane about John Robshaw day, spot a rug, actually make a decision and bam I bought it!

Look it!

I really like it! I'm pretty sure it's going in the living room. It's in the color scheme I'm planning on and I got the 6x9' for only $199 smackers!

I'm usually not one to make a decision like this but I saw this rug before and liked it so I figured I'd better take advantage!

Hopefully there will be no buyer's remorse...I don't think there will be!

Currently Obsessed With; Rugs in the Kitchen

It started very subtly, but can now be found everywhere. Rugs in the kitchen bring a certain warmth only a rug can bring. It makes me happy to see how a rug can change a room and kitchens are no exception!

Do you have a rug in your kitchen? I wonder how often they get spilled on. In my house, it would be a lot!

I Heart Lamps!

I went by Target the other day for the usual random stuff and was pleasantly surprised to see some of their new home decor. I was very impressed! Have you been lately? They are just knocking it out of the park!

This collection is my favorite. Full of mirrored pieces and colorful glass items to swoon over.

The colors are so pretty and as far as I can tell, the quality is outstanding. Check out these lamps I got!

Ignore those red drapes, I can't wait to get rid of them! The lamps are a beautiful raspberry pink with matching trim on the shades. So cute! There was so much more I could've bought but I didn't really "need" anything else!

I picked up these two pillows on sale at Urban Outfitters for only $9.99 each! The bigger one has sparkle threading, I love that!

Our bathroom is coming along. It's exciting to come home each day and see what's been done. It's supposed to be done this friday. Only they will have to come back because they forgot that I asked them to remake the drawer fronts to match the new cabinet doors, ugh!

This is a picture of our house during Snowpocalypse 2011. It's been ridiculous, this weather. I'm so glad this weekend is sunny and in the 60's. Can't. Freaking. Wait.

I signed up for a photography course that starts today and I'm super excited! I really did it for, so now you won't have to see my fuzzy pictures all the time, yay!

Better Than One!

I love the over the top look of having more than one light over a dining table or in any space for that matter. It's so opulent and luxurious!

Is anyone else loathing this Monday as much as me? Geez Louis, I picked up two last minute dancing gigs this weekend at some very glamorous super bowl parties here in Dallas. I can't even count the amount of celebrities I saw on one hand! Hopefully pictures will be posted on the party company's website soon and then I will surely share. It was such a blast!

How was your weekend?
