Some Decor Ponderings

I'm on a bit of a staycation this week and loving every minute of it. Naturally this means I'm looking at everything about my home I want to change.

I've had the inkling to re-paint our entry way for a while now but as you can see I'm not sure what about the color I want to change.

It's right off the living room so that's something to consider. What would you do here? I'm all ears!

Ordered a swatch of this fabric from spoonflower.

I'm highly considering it for curtains in my office. The floral just feels so fresh and I love the colors.

From here

Of course then the rug I have just wouldn't do. I'm considering these as pairings...

The ever popular beni knock off from World Market.

This awesome vintage number from Esale Rugs. I'm not sure if this would be too much with the curtains or not. But it might just be the perfect mix, something to consider.

Bought this trim to go on the shower curtain I'm making for our hall bath remodel. I got 8 yards for $17! I love the warehouse fabric places on harry hines, they are stupid cheap.

I'm going with a textured white linen mix for the fabric. I like that the trim doesn't match the wall color perfectly.

Picked up this roll of shimmery vintage wallpaper for only $5. I'm not sure what I'll do with it but it was too good to pass up.

And of course, dog noses are never too far away.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Quick Change: Moroccan Table Redo

I have two of these little Moroccan style tables in our home.

I got them years ago at a sample sale when I worked at JcPenney corporate. They're great little tables but the other day I decided it was time for an update.

I used a gold leaf pen to outline the legs and a little metallic paint on the top.

I think the outline on the legs especially shows off the awesome shape of the legs and the top now looks like stamped tin. Overall I'm quite pleased at what an hour of work got me!

Quick Change: New Pillows

We've had these same pillows I made from a vintage scarf for a while now. I thought it would be great to bring in some more texture and change it up for Winter.

All of these fabrics are purchases I made even though I had no idea what I would do with it. Turned out to be a good decision! A few bucks in hidden zippers made for a quick switcheroo!

The black and gold is velvet that I purchased last summer.

The pink fabric is actually from Joann's. It's so pretty I had a hard time choosing which color I liked. The black polka dot is velvet on linen and was a remnant for cheap.

I hope to find more fabrics I like to replace the others as well!

Happy Thursday!

Look at me go, I've made a decision!

Just realizing that title sounds all election day-y. But this has nothing to do with politics.

I found, made a decision and actually purchased something for my home! Maybe decision 2012 did have a hand in it! Sorry, that was cheesy.

I really liked the stencil I had previously picked out for our hall bath remodel but something just wasn't quite right about it.

From here.

So I decided to shop around to see if anything else tickled my fancy. I figured if I don't find anything this is a good option still.

But I found something, oh yes I did.

From here.

Its less art deco, more moroccan and bohemian. I am slowly coming into my style more and feel like this is a step in the right direction.

I did backpedal on my paint decision though.

I chose the middle but now I think i want something more blue, less green. Back to the paint store I guess. My goal is to make a decision by this weekend. We have scheduled a holiday party about 5 weeks away and even if the tile isn't done I want the walls to be. Nothing like having people over to motivate you!

Then the question is, should the stencil be white on blue, or blue on white? Oh the possibilities are endless!

White on dark...

Then there's dark on white...

 Which do you prefer?

Curtain Call of the Week

It's time for another curtains call! Thanks to The Glam Lamb for the clever title. I knew it should have a catchy name!

Image from MMR Interiors

The bright colors on black is just gorgeous. And paired with all the other patterns and black and white bedding, just gorgeous!

Wish I could see the rest of this room, don't you?

Happy thursday lovers!

PS Happy Day of the Dead too! This was me celebrating last weekend...

Curtain of the Week

I'm a sucker for a good curtain. Maybe it's because I like fabrics in general so much. Maybe its because, HELLO, they are awesome!

So I'm going to start doing a curtain of the week. Behold the first installment...

You have also seen this fabulous Schumacer fabric in these fine rooms;

Michelle Adams bedroom from Lonny.

And her lonny office. She really loves this fabric and so do I!

DIY Agate Art

I made this little piece of art last weekend using agate rocks I picked up on our recent trip to Yellowstone National Park.

My husband said it "looked pro". It's a small piece but I love it.

The art wall is really filling out.

All the do-it-yourselfing made Akira really sleepy.

Then I started looking around the house and noticed, apparently, I really like rocks! They're everywhere!

Scott started putting up the tile in the spare bathroom. After he was finished I said it "looked pro". I guess we really are do-it-yourself kind of people!

 Happy Tuesday!

What I've Been Up To

I've mentioned before on this blog how I have been a dancer my whole life. It's something I hope will always be a part of my life.

Earlier this year I made a goal. I get really determined when I set out to do something. That goal was to get into pole dancing and enter a competition. I didn't know if I would make it to the final round, if I could even do it, if I even had the strength.

Last weekend I realized that goal and competed in Miss Texas Pole Star.

I had to work hard, like really hard to get there.

First I had to practice. I practiced 3 or 4 times a week since January. Before then I hadn't done pole in about three years. And even when I did do it before it was very casually.

Then I had to choreograph and perform my first ever routine, film it, and submit it for consideration. I entered in the Fitness category, which was for level 4 and up girls.

It was really hard to gain the strength and stamina, not to mention choreograph, a whole routine.

28 girls submitted videos, 12 were chosen as finalists to ultimately compete and I was one of them!

Since August 1st I have been training almost 6 days a week almost 2 hours a day on my routine. I've suffered multiple injuries, so many doubts in myself and my ability to do this. I had a lot of support from friends and family, without which I would not have made it. But ultimately, I was in the studio alone all those hours. Other competitors had comrades competing alongside them where I did not. I think that was one of the hardest things.

But I did it. I got on stage in front of a ballroom filled with people and did my first ever performance.

I DID IT!

I didn't win and thats ok. I am very happy with my performance but watching the other girls, including the professionals, showed me how far I still have to go.

I also had to completely teach myself how to use a spinner pole in the last month. Fighting against centrifugal force while holding your knees to your face is no easy feat, but I did that too.

So here it is. Almost 10 months, two bruised ribs, a torn lat, a pulled pec, a strained hamstring and countless amounts of bruises later. This is what I worked for!

I hope you like it...
