I'm excited!

I'm ready for an exciting Halloween weekend in my hometown with BFF. I bought this costume yesterday...

So that I could be a zombie version of this...

I just found out that my co-worker's 3 year old daughter is going to be strawberry shortcake as well (less zombie) I'm not sure how I feel about this.

And BFF is going as a zombie version of Rainbow Bright...

But with a less stupid look on her face. 80's cartoon characters for the win!

I will also be visiting the Texas Renaissance Festival. I'm not sure what I'll be wearing but I'm sure BFF will have something awesome for me to borrow that's completely inappropriate for any situation except in a setting where people wear fairy wings, talk in unusual accents, and consider chain mail an article of clothing, I'm looking forward to it...

We will be spending Halloween night at some place called the "FunPlex". I'm not really sure what it is but the ticket cost $30 so it'd better be good.
What is your costume? What will you be doing?

Museum Windows

Jennifer and I decorated the windows this month for Chris Madden and Studio. I had to design the concept and gather samples on my own since Jennifer was in Greece. It's hard to be creative when you don't have someone to talk through your ideas with but they actually came out very nice.

The first one is Chris Madden. It's a very traditional brand with a lot of embellishment. Jennifer and I sketched out the frames in the back and then a friend painted over them with gold. They turned out to be a very nice focal point.

The second one is Studio. It's more of a modern and transitional brand. We used the tag line "A new point of view" for this window. I love how things are all askew in this window.

Jennifer and I joked that we find a way to use fishing wire in every window that we do. I just love the way it makes things seem to float around.

Vintage Hats

I don't know about you but I wish we all wore beautiful hats. It was all but required that women donned some type of head ornamentation for centuries. Alas, as fashion became more casual hats fell more and more unnecessary. That being said I have yet to find a hat that flatters my abnormally small head. This post is for all us dreamers wishing we could wear a hat without looking silly...

You may remember the hat heard 'round the world...

When I watched the inauguration at work that day and Aretha came out in this stunner I went through a range of emotions. First shock, then curiosity, before finally settling on feelings of pride.

What I love most about hats are the vintage ones perfectly matched with each and every outfit and suited for only the most peculiar of occasions. This always makes me wonder how many hats a woman had to own. After all, you can't repeat outfits this stunning very often...

Even Barbie is with the trend...

For me, and I'm sure most of you as well, the fashion on Mad Men is a highlight of the show. I've seen a great deal of wonderful hats on this show but was only able to drum up these two.

A wonderful hat/outfit ensemble worn by Jane when she stuck it to Joan at the office, loved that scene.
So ladies, what's the verdict? Any of you wearing hats these days or just dreaming of them like me?

Library Ladder

My last post inspired me to do some image hunting for library ladders, which then caused me to come across some home library images and you can imagine all the decor porn that brought me across. Anyhoo, here's a collection of things that caught my eye.

This library is a very interesting use of space. The ladder actually IS the library, or the ladder is a staircase rather. Very innovative though I feel like I might get disoriented walking up these stairs.

Another ladder in another lovely kitchen. I just love these oversize islands and those windows, oh the windows!

You can see the library ladder in the background here with a comfy couch and lots of pillows for reading. These yellow painted doors are wonderful!

This library was built in a living room in Paris with extremely high cielings. Oh how lucky these people are to have such wonderful architecture in an apartment!

This one doesn't have a ladder but I just loved everything about this room. The chandelier, the colors, the chairs, everything! There's a little library tucked away in the back as well.

Another library with a ladder in a magnificent room!

Oh to have high cielings like these!

See the rest of this house here

I loved everything about this house when it was featured on design sponge. The color schemes and detailing are wonderful. This bathroom is nothing short of those things as well. I dream of all those little cubbies to keep my things in. I keep looking for areas in my house to have built in shevling. Hopefully a space will become obvious soon.

I'm not crazy about the decor in this room but that ladder leading up to the loft...I'd just die! You can even see a little sky light peeking out up there. Someday I hope to have a house with all kinds of nooks and crannies that you can hide away in.

Just Look at this Kitchen

Gaw! See the rest of this amazing house here. It's my life long goal to have a rolling ladder in my home but I've never thought of putting in my kitchen. Genius!

This Makes Me Happy

From Here
Parachute day in gym class was something I looked forward to every year*. It saddens me to think that kids nowadays don't have regularly scheduled gym class anymore...
* I also really enjoyed crab soccer, if anyone remembers that game.

Amazing Artist- Imagine studio

I'm always amazed at the talent of people I come across on the internet. This latest discovery is via The Dustjacket Attic. This artist collages his images to make a fantastical image that will inspire you. Here are a few of my favorites;

Round Top Photos

I was gifted a used but lovely SLR camera from my father in law recently and I've been spending some time getting used to it. I don't have all the lens' I need for it yet but I was able to borrow one from FIL for the weekend and I took some lovely photos in Round Top. I can't wait to learn more about photography and I'm very excited about the pictures I've taken so far!

A collection of perfume bottles that shimmered in the morning light

A row of vintage slips

A suitcase full of gold

Colorful teacups

Row of gliding lawn chairs

Collection of brooches

Vintage chandeliers galore

Relaxing at his master's booth

Which one is your favorite? Stay tuned for pictures of all the goodies I picked up and I may have some exciting news to share with you tomorrow!
