Project Plant Stand

One of my purchases from the Round Top antique fair was this metal shelf for $15. It has a nice oriental feel to it and I thought all the different levels would make it perfect for my potted plants. It was a brassy gold color with minor rust areas but I knew it could be really cute. Last weekend it was finally warm and sunny enough to repaint!

Before:

After!

I'm not really sure what's up with the plant in upper right, it looks sad and I haven't been able to get it to perk up...

This was my first redo-type project so now I'm really looking forward to more! I will have my eye out for some things that need a little TLC next month at Canton Flea Market.

Flash Mob

Have you heard of a Flash Mob Dance before? It's quite possibly the most exciting thing since sliced bread. Apparently it's happening all over the country now and I may have the chance to be in one! My dance group has one tentatively scheduled and I can't wait to see what the director has up her sleeve!

Are you a Gypsetter?

Have you heard of this new thing called a gypsetter? It's a gypsy+jetsetter= gypset. Inspired by a new movement of bohemian chic gypsies with nothing but time to kill and money to blow. Yeah I hate them whatevs. There's even a book about living a life described as "experimental luxury". Anyhoos, the fashion this trend is spawning is to die for!

Designers such as Proenza Schouler, Marc Jacobs, and Joseph Altuzarra have lines inspired by this lifestyle.

Missoni has also credited gypset as the main inspiration behind their spring 2010 collection.

What do you guys think? Love it or hate it? Hate them because their beautiful? Hate it because you love it?

Gift Swap Anyone?

So I had an idea to do a handmade gift swap and I wanted to see if anyone would be interested. It would work like so;

I will match you up with another person to exchange with
The gift can be anything handmade and materials must cost under $20 (US)
The gift must be sent out on or before December 18th

I'm not sure how many people will want to participate but if we could get just enough to do a little gift swap I think this would be really fun!

If you are interested please leave me a comment and we'll see if we can get this baby going!

Image from Here

I would like to put together a vegetarian cook book and give it as gifts at Christmas. I want to include all types of recipes like appetizers, soups, entrees, desserts, whatever! Problem is I need your help to do it! Yes, I could simply start googling and accomplish it but I want this to consist of your genuinely loved recipes that you have ejoyed time and time again. It's ok if you originally got it from the internet or wherever. I just want it to be something that you enjoy. So please! Send me your recipes! (email can be found in my profile)

My Halloween Costume

Apologies for the blurry picture. We had to wake up her mom to take the photo before we left, she was sleepy...

Her mom kept asking why we weren't smiling. We're like "We're flesh eating zombies, we don't smile!"

Better detail shots

Unfortunately no action shots from the party. Strawberry shortcake didn't exactly have pockets and I was already carrying money, driver's license, and a locker key in my bra!

Shop Review: High Fashion Home

I visit so many wonderful independently owned stores (or boutique, or craft fair, or flea market) that I've decided to start a new series to share them with everyone. If you have a store to recommend please do!

I had the opportunity to visit an amazing store in Houston over the weekend known as High Fashion Home. They originally started as a fabric store selling all types of fabric and became so successful they opened a large store across the street to focus only on fashion for the home. I've been to High Fashion Fabrics several times and it's nothing but rows and rows of amazing fabrics so I was expecting the same from the home store and was I wrong! It was almost like a mini version of ABC carpet in NYC which is a store that I love.

Here you will find four enormous floors of everything to make your home stylish, comfortable, and unique. There is art, craft items, pillows, lighting, furniture, decorative accessories, and row after row of amazing fabric. They also do custom upholstery and drapery. If you are ever in the Houston area I highly recommend this amazing store!
