Chandeliers and Pendants and Lanterns, Oh My!

I went to the hardware store to buy a new ceiling fan for our bedroom. Gasp! What a decorating sin, a ceiling fan?! But I must face facts that I live in Texas and it gets freaking hot here in the summer. While I was roaming around the department completely unamused at my selections my husband admits that he doesn't like our ceiling fan. He said it dries his eyes out when it's on. Light bulb!

"So can I spend the money for something fancy like a chandelier then?"

"Well it depends on what we're talking about..."

"Since I didn't know it was an option I have no idea what I'd buy instead"

"Well let's split the cost and get what you really want"

Um...hell yes! Sidenote: my husband and I have separate accounts for spending money on fun stuff and a joint account for everything else. Works like a dream btw.

So now the search begins! I already know that I don't want a chandelier right off the bat. Not sure if I can accurately explain why but I just feel I want something more contemporary with a cleaner line. So I've been looking at pendants. Here are some considerations...

Jupiter Chandelier, from Z Gallerie

I think a little touch of glam would be nice.

Square Pendant, Shades of Light

Question: Any of you who have similar ceiling lights or have seen them better in person, how bright are these? My bedroom can get pretty dark and I do my make up in there so I want something with a good amount of light. Not glaringly bright or anything but bright you know?

I definitely like something that hangs in a bedroom- just more romantic. My vote goes to the first one- contemporary with a hit of glamour. Lovely.

Sadly, I have a ceiling fan in my room. I'm not sure I can sleep without it, but it I were to change it I'd buy the first light. It's gorgeous!

Lucky girl!!

I'm in the opposite situation at the moment - I hate ceiling fans but I'm considering one since the floor fans in our bedroom are driving me insane...

So what are other stylish budget friendly cool down solutions?? That would make a good post...

PS - for a bedroom, definitely number 1!

LUCKY!!! I could never get away with this. My husband sweats at night so I'm stuck with a fug fan. Jealous.

Love the last one. The other day I went past a lantern place and seriously wanted to buy everything in it!
