Bohemian Farmhouse Inspiration

Seems like two words that don't go together right? But it can be done!

My parents are finally building their dream home at Ridgetop Farm and have asked me to help design it. I am very excited! My mom wants it to feel like a farmhouse but, like me or maybe I'm like her, she's a bit eclectic/bohemian. I wanted to stay true to her style yet find a way for the decor to match the design of the house and the "farm" it sits on. I have farm in quotes because their only animals are cats!

I'm thinking the color scheme should be blue and white with touches of gold. Bold mixes of pattern and a lot of texture.

Blue and white is a very traditional color combo but by doing it in bohemian prints it feels fresh and eclectic. Adding in natural elements like wood, seagrass, birch and rough linen brings in the farmhouse element perfectly.

Preppy stripe and eclectic paisley with a bead board wall. Love the use of vintage art in this mix. My mom LOVED this image.

Another great mix of pattern. The open lantern pendants have great style. Finding some in a weathered zinc finish would be awesome too. I will be on the lookout.

They have a big open room like this after you come through the front door. It has to be a combined entryway, formal dining, library and family room. Theirs isn't near this big even! It will be a similar set up however with the couch dividing the space and a dining table behind it. They also have some exposed beams in the ceiling as well.

My mom has always dreamed of having a vintage buffet. There isn't really room for one since the front door opens right into the big combined space and the formal dining is closest to the door. There is however a large wall where I thought a buffet piece like the one above could double as an entry way table. Best of both worlds!

For the library we'll be using this tutorial from Little Green Notebook to turn inexpensive Ikea bookshelves to built ins. We'll have a parsons desk nearby and two wing chairs with a fun pattern in front of the shelves.

I think a pedestal table like this one from wisteria is perfect for the space. With the sofa, shelves and tables there's a lot of squares in here so a round table is just the ticket. It's also big enough to seat 6.

And just last weekend mom and I scored this gorgeous gold and milk glass vintage chandelier for only $100!

I've also put together a tentative grouping of fabrics and rugs.

This rug below the table in the dining room with the simple geo on the chairs.

And this for curtains, although I may need this fabric for myself!

And of course seagrass under the living room sofa. Still need to find the right sectional for that room then I will figure out the coffee table situation.

And I can't forget the gorgeous view off the back of the house!

Heavenly.

What do you guys think?

Beachy Keen

I'm only 17 days away from a vacation. 17 long, very long days. Scott and I booked a vacation to Cocoa Beach, Florida with my brother and his wife to see one of the last shuttle launches in history! I'm so excited! We got a condo directly on the beach with private access basically next door the launch site so we will have first row viewing. Then I will enjoy four solid days of relaxing, reading books and working on my tan!

It can't come soon enough!

This is the outfit I'm going to wear...

Just kidding! I wish I could look this amazing at the beach.

I did buy this on sale yesterday though...

From anthro,

It's such a beautiful dress that hugs and drapes in all the right places. I can't wait to wear it to dinner one night with some brightly colored beaded jewelry.

Dear April 18th, please come fast!

This is a picture of Scott and I at Galveston beach right after we started dating. I can't believe this was almost 6 years ago!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. I will be going to High Point furniture market tomorrow, if you'll be there please give me a shout so we can meet up!

FOW: Lite

Hello all! Just wanted to take a quick moment to say that posting may be light for the next two weeks. We are getting ready for Highpoint at work and then I will be traveling to Highpoint for the show. I'm also preparing for a performance this weekend at Lakewood Theater in Dallas. It's the Move to Groove Ball showcasing dancers in every genre and I'm excited to be a part of it!

I will definitely try to get a few things prepared to share with you over the next two weeks but I just wanted to let you know what I'll be up to! Our bathroom reno is coming along and the shower is almost completely finished and then we're moving onto the rest of the bathroom. I'll be sure to share the shower at least! I also wanted to share with you a local charity that I recently found and am hoping to get involved with. Until next time!

I hope these amazing art galleries will ease your pain of missing me! Hardly a substitute I know...

Back to School

This time of year always has me feeling a little nostalgic for going back to school. I would spend endless hours picking out all my outfits for the entire first week of school. I would practice new hair styles, rehearse how I would nonchalantly respond when a boy I'd been thinking about all summer would say hi, and dream about how some bitchy girl would have gained weight or gotten horrible acne thus making me look prettier, ah good times. More recently in college back to school always meant moving, to a new dorm, to a new apartment and I would spend all summer collecting items to decorate my new place. My mom and I would go shopping for fabrics and sew curtains or bedding and match up all the accessories in the room.

This first picture is my dorm room from freshman year at The University of North Texas, my was I bright eyed and bushy tailed!

The bedding was made by my mom and I out of squares of scarf material. I still have this comforter and I still love it. The purple rug is from Target and the giant fan is from Oriental Trading company. If you look closely you can see my childhood stuffed bunny, Rosey, watching over me from the shelf underneath the desk. The room was akin to a 10x12 foot prison cell with a horrible roommate but I made the most of it!

Here is my first apartment alone. I lived in one before this with a roommate but unfortunately I don't have any pictures, all the furniture was my roomie's anways.

Again with my fan. Look how new my couch looks! My mom and I made the pillows. The coffee table I got when my grandmother passed away, the console, Eiffel tower lamp, patchwork rug, and curtains are all from Target. The drape over the window is an Indian sari.

Here is my bedroom, there were only two rooms in the 500 square foot apartment! My bedding was from Urban Outfitters. It was a beautiful sea green brocade, I still love it but it wasn't very durable. Curtains were from Wal-Mart. All my furniture was from Ikea. Look how small Meowser is! Then was when I first brought him home from the SPCA. Now he looks like this...

FEED ME!

Do you have any pictures of your first place(s)? I would love to see! We should all do my first place posts! Whether it be a childhood room, apartment, dorm room ,whatever. That would be so fun!

Our Christmas Tree, better late than never right?

What can I say? I have no excuse really so here is our tree for 2009!

I wasn't going to buy a tree this year because the reality is, we're really not home the week of Christmas. I was thinking it would be good to save the money as well. Then I ended up being given the perfect size artificial tree by my MIL. So of course then I HAD to have new ornaments which ended up costing as much as a tree anyways, oh well...

I wanted something really colorful and the ornaments at Target were perfect.

The tree topper was our favorite

My Christmas table with a vintage tablecloth and miniature feather trees with ornaments. The cat just loooooooved this one. Every time I came home I would find ornaments on the floor and feathers everywhere. Guess the trees won't make it to next year.

We had so many presents under the tree this year. It was so awesome!

Of course once all the kids combined presents at mom's house it was even crazier!

We decided to open a few presents a day the two days before Christmas. Why you ask? Because we're adults and we do what we want, that's why!

We got a new dog!

Everyone, please to meet the newest member of our family, Atari! He is a 9 month old cream Shiba Inu that we rescued after his former owners kept him locked in a room as a puppy and finally surendered him to a rescue group. He is such a sweet little guy!

Quite the precarious sleeping position.

Akira is enjoying playing with her new brother. Although, she is still being protective of her palace she is gradually coming around.

Meowser was not amused

We are so happy with our little family. We have been wanting to adopt another Shiba for quite some time and for one reason or another it never worked out until now. It makes me feel like we were meant to wait until Atari was ready for us!
