Coming Around on Red

I have something to confess...

I don't much care for the color red in decor.

It used to be my FAVORITE color ever!

But for a while now I haven't cared for it. It was hard for me to work with, it felt like it overpowered everything else and was generally sucky.

But lately, I kinda like it.

The other day I even picked up this fabric swatch.

I'm smitten with its Ruby velvety loveliness.

And after a quick perusal of my pinterest boards. I noticed I've pinned quite a bit of red.

This last image might have to be the inspiration for our hall bath reno. I'm thinking red and some inky blue, you know, in a non patriotic kinda way.

Keep Looking Up!

I often find that my favorite rooms have that little something extra. That little detail or finishing touch that makes you gush and think "Now this is a beautiful room!". For our bedroom, I'm hoping to have that little something extra on my ceiling! The options for this are so abundant and each has its own charm.

Of course I say these things even though I have yet to even pick out a wall color! But a girl can still dream and gather her hearts desires on the interwebs.

Our ceiling has a raised section in the center that has so much potential. I really like the idea of coming in from the edges with a design like this.

Then again, I could focus on the center. Butterflies aren't my thing but something radiating out would be so awesome. I picture getting just a shade lighter and more glossy than the ceiling paint to make this perfect.

But then there is something to be said for going with an all over stencil or wallpaper. Wallpaper is not in the budget for me but I like the idea of a stencil.

Or I could go with the best of both worlds and do something on the sides AND the center. Yes, yes I like this. Although this person made this design with his freaking fingers! I'm not that talented!

Or I could keep it simple and go with a solid color. But then the question would be should that color be contrasting or complimentary? Oh decisions, decisions...maybe I'll just focus on the wall color for now. Our bedroom has become a veritable smorgasbord of paint swatches and I don't even feel like I'm close. My plan of action is to make my headboard, get it the room and then see what I'm feeling. Hopefully then the solution will magically present itself. Yeah right...

Currently Obsessed With; Black & White Seating

Something about it is just so crisp and beautiful. Not to mention you can do anything in the rest of the room with a black and white stripe chair or couch. The possibilities make me squeal with glee!

This is the kind of thing that can move from room to room in your home and transition through every decor mood you may go through. I'm so happy to finally have some b&w striped chairs to call my own!

Do you have any black and white stripes in your home?

Accent Walls: How do we feel about them?

I think I may have finally found some fabric that I think will work for my upholstered headboard. I love it but the only problem is it doesn't offer as much contrast to the white bedding as I was hoping to have.

Um, Brandi, that's a shower curtain...I know it's awesome right?! I'm totally going to see if it will work. If not i can return it, you can't do that with fabric!!!!

So one thought led to another in my crazy brain and now I'm contemplating doing an accent wall. I thought with either a stencil or a fantastic punch of color may help take the room to another level altogether, which is something I would welcome. I wouldn't mind going all out in the bedroom but I do still need to make sure I have some level of calmness in the bedroom while still maintaining the wow factor.

I feel very hesitant because I had previously not liked them at all. I did some searching and found some really wonderful examples but I am still undecided.

We've all seen this amazingly awesome room from Danielle Oakey

But alas, I'm not a little girl. This does give me hope though.

Another issue is, I don't have a lot of natural light in this room. It's a generously sized room with only two narrow and tall windows. The rest of my house has huge gorgeous windows but somehow the builder really missed the boat on this one.

Yet another issue, the headboard and the two windows are on the same wall. Therefore, a lot would be going on on this one wall. Headboard, bedding, curtains, paint. I don't want the room to be too busy or heavy on the one wall. The bed wouldn't make sense on any other wall, so rearranging is out of the question. Oh the problems...

I'm loving this accent wall from Sfgirlbybay. But again I still have curtains to contend with all on this one wall.
I am open to changing bedding, I have no ideas of what to do for window treatments yet, so that is open as well. So what do we think about accent walls? How can I make sure it looks good? How do you feel about them in my room? If not an accent wall, what color could I paint the room to give it contrast?

Color Me Happy; Pink!

Happy Monday! And hopefully for most of you this is a short work week. I know it is for me! You'll be happy to know I got absolutely nothing done last weekend! Yay for procrastination! I'm still getting over my cold so I just didn't have the energy. Shame because the warm weather is quickly running out so I MUST finish my chairs before it's too late!


Now on to the Pink! I'm in love. When I was a little girl my whole room was pink. I even had pink carpet! I thought I had moved on forever but oh was I wrong. This color always holds a special place in my heart.

Could you paint brick pink?

What the Folk?!

A little bit boho but with a Russian flair the new folk trend is sure to serenade your eyeballs. The mix of patterns and jewel tones feel fresh with bright saturated colors and an array of textures. Expect chunky fabrics, knits and natural wood tones and then fall in love!

Maybe it's the heavier fabrics or the mostly darker colors but this trend is perfect for Fall and I know we are ready!

20 of the last 23 days have been 100 degrees or hotter in Dallas and we are not expecting the temperature to dip for the next 10 days in sight. We've had no rain and don't expect any either. I'm MELTING!
