I'd Really Like to Thank...

The lovely Nancy from Marcus Design awarded me the Stylish blogger Award a few weeks ago. Since things have been a little ridiculous for me as of late, I'm just getting around to give her my most heartfelt thanks!

The rules state that you must share seven thing about yourself so here goes...

1. I want to travel, like anywhere. Of course I want to go to the obvious places but I also want to go to obscure places too, like little villages in the Philippines and such. There is no place that I DON'T want to visit, I want to see it all!

2. I've mentioned before that I have a major sweet tooth but I think something most of you don't know is how bad it truly is! I like to eat them, bake them, look at them, talk about them. I make some type of dessert every single weekend. It's like a ritual and it actually relaxes me. I like to try new recipes too. I'm constantly looking for new things to make and unload on my coworkers so I don't have to eat it all.

My delicious Oreo Truffles, get the recipe here.

3. When I was little I wanted to be a dance teacher. Not a ballerina mind you, but a dance teacher with my own studio and everything. I wanted to be that when I grew up for so long, my parents actually thought I would do it too.

4. I really hate cold weather, like really hate it. For this reason, I can never live anywhere up north. I get cold if the temperature falls bellow 72 degrees. In the winter Scott has to drop me off at the door when we go somewhere because I will start to shiver uncontrollably while walking through the parking lot. He's a good husband!

5. I'm a marathon shopper. I can shop but never will I drop. I could go all day hopping from store to store and never miss a beat. I love to shop with my mom but she always gets tired (like any human being!). I could shop everyday for days.

6. Shopping is also one of my favorite things about vacations. Of course I like seeing the sights, but I also love to shop in new places. I will save up my money for months before a trip so I can go on a free-for-all shopping spree on a vacation. This also makes me feel like a drug addict...

7. I really like to exercise. But I hate going to the gym. I had a gym membership for a long time and I really tried to use it. But being a former dancer I find weight lifting and running on a treadmill extremely boring. Since I wasn't having fun I didn't go much and that made me feel bad. Then I had the obvious revelation that I needed to have fun while working out! Duh! So I finally found some dance classes to take regularly and it's amazing how great they make me feel! I'm sort of a dance junkie. I will try any form of dance, I've done pole dancing, burlesque, salsa, zumba, cardio dance, belly dance, Bollywood, and even my latest venture, aerial silks. I have a blast while getting in shape, so why the hell not?!

And now I would like to pass on the award to some very deserving ladies...

That's all I'm going to for now because I think everyone else has already had the pleasure of receiving this award! I hope you enjoyed getting to know me better!

TheCoveted.Com

If you like snooping around people's closets + pictures of pretty clothing and accessories then I have great news for you! Thecoveted.com has just launched a site full of inspiration and features a behind closed doors look into the closets of some of the biggest names in fashion.

This is an outfit saver.Vest, Sportmax

From my dad and my brother! I was impressed when they picked these out for me and my new apartment. I like how these are a little chipped and warn, and of course, pink is my favorite color. Until I started working at Teen Vogue, I was always Mary Kate, or my family nickname, Kater. But in the fashion industry, everyone calls me MK. I can't say I ever wanted to be called MK, but now I do love it.

Shoes, Miu Miu

This photo is stunning and I feel like the dress will never look as good on me as it does in the sunshine of the window! Its Malene Birger, and my mom bought it for me at one of the only chic stores in my hometown of Milwaukee, Falcoln. It had little black bows all over it, which I removed because I liked the simplicity of the black cuffs and tiered hem. Its pretty sheer, I haven’t quite figured out how to wear it, but the image is stunning.Dress, Malene Birger

The photo is of Kirsten Owen and again, is a bit of a contradiction in that the expression is so candid and the fashion is so tailored. It is completely subjective in terms of what she is doing - yelling, yawning, freaking out, over dosing. There is such a juxtaposition in this picture that I love.Shoes, Prada, Rachel Comey, N.D.C., Pierre Hardy, Lanvin

I love adding a little sparkle to a daytime look, something that catches the light.Earrings, J.Crew; Earrings, Lulu Frost

Is is just me or do you want to see more of their houses too?

Silhouettes...

The days of plain silhouettes are over! Today, it's all about giving this traditional artwork a modern twist. The possibilities are limitless. Go with pattern, color, composition anything you can dream up! And the best part of all, you can make this yourself! I'm a big believer in creating your own art or buying from indie artists. No store bought stuff for us!

Here's a little something to get your creative juices flowing!

I saw this picture a while back on Bijou & Boheme that I can't stop thinking about. This
would be a really fun and impactful DIY art project.

I scoped out some great wallpaper for this project from my go to source.

From Wallpaper from the 70's and only 39 Euros a roll! You would have plenty left for other fun projects!

Even though black and white is my favorite you don't have to be limited of course!

This could be fun too!

If you wanted to use some fun papers as a background on smaller silhouettes you can also buy samples for 50 cents too. Even more possibilities there!

I smell another weekend project on my list! Seriously, I need a whole week off to finish everything on my "weekend projects" list!

Feeling Girly & Pretty

Maybe it's because I want to go shopping or maybe it's the snot dripping out of my nose from the nasty cold I caught at market, all I know is today I feel like something easy on the eyes. Lacey, drapey, sheer, delicate, beautiful, open and airy is just the ticket.

How is your week going? I finally had the day off yesterday after working through two furniture markets in a row. Of course I spent it in bed nursing my cold but let's be honest, I probably would've spent it in bed anyways! Hopefully this weekend I can finish up some half done projects to show you!

Ch Ch Ch Changes!

Welcome to the new and improved Flights of Whimsy! We went live Wednesday and I would like to sincerely thank Shari, at Little Blue Deer, for making the magic happen!

A refresh was long overdue. I now feel that my blog's exterior matches it's interior (colorful, fabulous, spunky, a little whimsical!)

You may also notice that I have a Facebook link too! So if you could just mosey on over there and like my page, that'd be greeeeat m'kay?

There's also some changes going on in the real Flights of Whimsy castle. Our master bathroom is being worked on! Finally! We thought it would be done this week but we had to order more tile so hopefully it will be done next week and then I can have the big reveal! It's so exciting to finally have the bathroom I've always dreamed we'd have in this house.

With everything going on I kind of feel like this...

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend!

I'm Calling It: Emerald Green is the Next Big Color

At first I was like ok...then I was like alright...now I'm like ooooooh yeaaaah! This is a beautiful color. I feel like in the past it has been used all wrong in a way that makes it look at stuffy and traditional. But when used right it's so pretty!

You may remember this post I did a while back about it's decliciousness. I've since been seeing it more and more so I just want to go on record and call this bitch!

Evidence...

Ok I think you get the point. So Emerald Green? Love it or not for you? Or you think I'm full of it? Discuss!

But Baby it's Cold Outside!

I know I'm not only one suffering through this freakishly cold weather out there. Last week we got out fireplace going for the first time in our house. Now that we have it I wonder why the heck we waited so long! There's nothing better than sitting by the fireplace with a huge blanket and watching a movie (I'm still keeping up with my goal to relax more by watching movies!).

So of course I started thinking that our mantle should be better accesorized, which led to looking up pictures, which of course led to an obsession! Here are some pretties to warm up your day!

Built-in heaven...

I don't know about you, but it seems like taking a bath in a metal tub might be cold, or scratchy, yes cold and scratchy...

Is everyone staying warm out there? I've blown a breaker in my office several times already trying to figure out if I can use two space heaters at once, FAIL!

On another note, I will be heading to Atlanta this weekend for the furniture show. Will you be there? Come say hi to me! Also, I've already plotted my route from the showroom to H&M, this is critical people!
